The Benefits of Upgrading Your Home to EPC C
The government has a target to get as many homes up to EPC C by 2035 with up to 60% of homes for sale on Rightmove – and 50% of homes available to rent.
As per Rightmove’s Green Home Report, improving your homes EPC rating of F to a C has the ability to improve price premium by £56,000 on top of local house price growth. This is considering the average asking price of a home to be in the region of £371,907.
EPC ratings are increasingly becoming more important with 19% of renters and first-time buyers saying energy efficiency will be a big factor in choosing a property due to energy bills, along with 13% of homeowners who are planning to move in the next year saying energy efficiency is also a factor in their decision.
The Role of Retrofitting
80% of buildings that will be lived in by 2050 already exist today, meaning that retrofitting these existing homes is crucial. Making sure people’s knowledge is up to date, on what to do and where to start is also a key aspect with retrofit.
Retrofit West’s Knowledge Bank is full of Retrofit Resources for people looking to dive a project, their articles and guides can help you answer specific questions and address common questions whilst demystify the process of transforming your home.
Two in five landlords with one property say they’d more than likely sell up than make improvements with 61% saying they would not now buy a rental property below an EPC rating of C, which is up from 47% last year.
