Part L & SBEM calculations
What are SBEM calculations?
SBEM (Simplified Building Energy Model) calculations are used to measure the energy use and carbon emissions of the proposed building whether from plans for new builds, extensions or conversions or from a site inspection in the case of existing buildings. SBEM calculations enable you to demonstrate compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations. They are also used to produce Non Domestic Energy Performance Certificates (NDEPC).
Why must I have a SBEM calculation?
When submitting plans for a new commercial building or an extension to an existing one, Building Control requires a SBEM calculation to ensure your building complies with Part L of the Building Regulations, at both design stage and on the building’s completion. If you cannot provide one, your plans will not be passed and it is unlikely that your building will be allowed to commence.
